RT Technologies offers laser safety training courses for personnel in industrial, medical, and research facilities. This training can be done onsite and is led by our Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO). Need remote LSO training via Zoom? Click here for more information.

To explain, according to the ANSI standard ANSI Z136.1 “Safe Use of Lasers”, a laser safety officer (LSO) is an individual designated by a company, university or governmental institution, who has the responsibility to monitor the safe usage of lasers in a work environment by defining the proper control measures according to the different levels of laser hazards.

Thus, All persons using Class 1M, Class 2M, Class 3R, Class 3B and Class 4 lasers should receive laser safety training. In addition, all organizations using Class 3B, Class 4 lasers should have a Laser Safety Officer (LSO) who has received appropriate training.

Furthermore, due to our involvement in European & International Standards making, we are able to advise on likely future changes to the standards.

Module B , “Laser Safety Fundamentals for the Laser Safety Officer (LSO)”

Course Summary:

An Explanation of LSO duties and requirements (referencing ANSI Z136.1, OSHA, FDA-CDRH and State standards)
A continuation of the review of basic laser operation, and biological effects
A review of the controls of laser hazards
Non-beam hazards associated with laser use (i.e. fumes, shock, plume, etc.)
Emphasis on industrial hygiene based or engineering control solutions
A working knowledge of MPE, AEL, NHZ and OD factors, etc.
